things to do in los angeles

a friend is planning a trip to the west coast of USA and i was struggling to name things for her to see/do in los angeles. i spent 4 years there and you'd think i should be able to name countless interesting things to do but all i could think of that is unique are the beaches. seriously though, what else is interesting to do in LA? it definitely isn't known for architecture or culture. telling people to go there solely for shopping makes my IQ decline immediately. theme parks aren't my cuppa tea since i dont believe in spending that much money to have my lunch hurled out. can someone name me 5 things to do in LA that is truly unique and appealing?
